VARIUS: A Model of Parameter Variation and Resulting Timing Errors for Microarchitects
نویسندگان
چکیده
As VLSI technology continues to scale, parameter variation is about to pose a major challenge to high-performance processor design. In particular, within-die variation is directly detrimental to a processor’s frequency and leakage power. To gain an understanding of this problem, this paper starts out by proposing a microarchitecture-aware model for parameter variation. It includes both random and systematic effects. It is partially calibrated with empirical data and uses a few intuitive parameters. Then, we extend the framework to model timing errors caused by parameter variation. This model yields the failure rate of microarchitectural blocks as a function of frequency and the amount of variation. With the combination of the variation model and the error model, we have VARIUS, a comprehensive model that is capable of producing detailed statistics of timing errors as a function of different process parameters and operating conditions. We propose possible applications of VARIUS to microarchitectural research.

The effect of self-control feedback on the learning of generalized motor program and parameters during physical and observational practice
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of self-control feedback on the learningof generalized motor program and parameters during physical and observational practice. Participants (n=90) were randomly assigned to physical and observational practice (self-control, yoked and instructor KR) groups. They practiced a sequential timing task. The task required participants to press four k...
متن کاملRole of STDP in regulation of neural timing networks in human: a simulation study
Many physiological events require an accurate timing signal, usually generated by neural networks called central pattern generators (CPGs). On the other hand, properties of neurons and neural networks (e.g. time constants of neurons and weights of network connections) alter with time, resulting in gradual changes in timing of such networks. Recently, a synaptic weight adjustment mechanism has b...

Effects of temperature and percentage of organic modifier were studied on retention and selectivity in RP-HPLC using solvation parameter model. The system constants were determined by multiple linear regression analysis from experimental values in the retention factor for a group of different solutes with known descriptors by computer using the program SPSS/PC. The experimental results showed t...
